The Sound of Music - Julie Andrews
Sparrows flutter and chirp a sweet melody. Winding rivers churn out soothing water medlies. A jazz ensemble stir up the sombre mood with a gentle and calm ambience. Like sweet honey, music represents the epitome of human cultural development since the time man first walked this earth.
Music is a universal language, it has no boundaries, limitless in all aspects. With richly diversified genres ranging from jazz to classical pieces, from rock and roll to pop music, music has evolved into a more sohpisticated form of art for all of us to enjoy and appreciate.
Today was my second time that I visited the Victoria Concert Hall. The last time I came here was to attend the NP Strings concert. Today, I came to attend the ACJC Band concert. I went with Poon, Melinda & Brian. We met up first at Raffles City before finding our way to VCH. We all managed to munch down a little something before the concert started lol.
Well, the songs they played were fantastic. I pretty much liked all of the four pieces played by the main band. The ACS(I)Band and the ACS(I) Recruit Band (for sec 1s) were there as guest bands and they performed real well too. I was pretty impressed by the Recruit Band as this was their debut performance. Imagine the stress they were handling!! Haha. The respective instrumental sections also managed to put up a convioncing performance. The Jazz Ensemble conducted by Fye was marvelous !! Esp, the drummer guy. Haha. He was damn funny la.
I managed to catch Fye after the performance and congratulate him on a job well done. I think he has put in a great amount of effort and dedication for the preparations leading to the concert. If you're reading this, congrats again man =)
The percussion ensemble led by Arthur was also great but it was really abstract, but I liked it! Congrats to u too man ^^
Ahh, I really regretted quitting band in secondary school. Back then, I didn't really have much dedication perhaps and did not really know how to appreciate music. I was in percussion and I really did take the effort to learn much. Lol, there were so many things for us to learn back then. I remembered so clearly. The snare and bass drums, the cymbals (that was the first instrument I ever touched), marimba, vibraphone and chimes. If I had the chance to turn back time, I would fully utilize my opportunity and learn how to master an instrument. Wait, maybe its not too late, haha, I can still learn right? Anyone willing to give a shot and coach me?
Sigh, if I can't ever achieve that, at the very least, I can learn to appreciate music. I've been listening to songs played by symphonic bands and orchestras. I really love them alot. I've also taken a keen liking to new age music =) Lol. It provides me with peace and tranquility. No shit!
Haha, the day has gone by in a blink of an eye. I have enjoyed tonight and I will find more opportunities to attend more band concerts. Music is music to my ears >.< Haha .. Good Night
